Image result for walter mzembiUnderfire former minister of foreign affairs Walter Mzembi is reported to be in danger of getting arrested again, on fresh charges of diverting funds from Mbada Diamonds and the Infrastructure Development Bank (IDBZ).

Mzembi is currently out on $400 bail after he was arrested on allegations of abuse of office as a public officer during his tenure as minister.

Mzembi is alleged to have donated some of the television sets which had been bought by the government to promote the 2010 World Cup.

Mzembi is now being investigated by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for allegedly abusing funds donated by Mbada Diamonds when Zimbabwe co-hosted the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) with Zambia in 2013.

Mzembi is also being investigated for abusing at least US$1.5 million from the US$5 million IDBZ infrastructure facility in 2013. Mzembi allegedly bought several cars with part of the money he received.

A Zacc official who spoke to the Zimbabwe Independent said:

Mzembi faces imminent arrest on fresh charges including how he allegedly approached IDBZ and claimed that government approved an infrastructure facility of US$5 million as part of the UNWTO preparations.

IDBZ then released US$1.5 million to Mzembi before the ministry of Finance intervened and wrote to IDBZ notifying them that the facility was never approved by the government.

Mzembi’s lawyer, opposition politician Job Sikhala has said that his client is not corrupt and that he has never stolen anything from the government.

Sikhala argues that his client is being persecuted over political differences.
