Sulumani sentenced 20 days imprisonment with an option of $100 fine

PROMINENT musician Sulumani Chimbetu was Wednesday sentenced to 20 days imprisonment for failing to pay $800 for the upkeep of his two kids with his first wife.

This was after he told court that he was looking for money to survive adding that court’s order was punitive considering that he is not formally employed.

“The complainant said my client is a hustler but it seems as if she is the one who has become a hustler in the maintenance court.

My client is even failing to settle his own debts because he doesn’t depend on a salary,” said his lawyer Cornwell Mutebve. Read more

Dema Accident victims named

Police yesterday named 10 people who perished in the Dema commuter omnibus accident on Monday.

These are Gift Murimi (25) of Chakanda Farm (Wedza), Trymore Mariyanadza (38) of Ndudzo Village, Chief Svosve (Wedza), Simbarashe Ndihana (42) of Wedza Growth Point, Honourable Sauti (42) of Maruza Village, Nyazura, Tariro Shave (55) of Nzvimbe Village (Nyazura), Blessed Chari (5) of Chikangwe Village (Karoi), Abel Karikatsande (one-year-four-months) of 13 Tavhi (Karoi), Susan Muzondori (24) of 13 Tavhi (Karoi), the driver Nemonic Ganganje (26) of Kuwadzana in Harare and Coleen Mutsetsiwa (28) from Chakadenga Village, Chief Nenguwo (Marondera).

The commuter omnibus rammed a haulage truck, killing six passengers on the spot.

The other four died in hospital.

In a development likely to get conservationists worried, Zimbabwe has signed an agreement with Chinese investors to develop its ‘Disneyland in Africa’ concept near the prime resort of Victoria Falls.

Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi said the conference centre and theme park was part of a vision for a $5 billion tourism industry in Victoria Falls, which is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

“We have signed an overarching agreement with some Chinese developers for a master plan to develop 300 hectares of land between the airport and the Masue River,” Mzembi told a press conference this week. Read more

Car thief surrenders to police after mysterious attack by spiritual bees in Kenya

A suspected car thief on Monday ran into a police station and surrendered himself after he was attacked by a spiritual swarm of bees in Kenya.

According to Nairobi News, Mr. Francis Sikadigu, a middle-aged Ugandan, had allegedly drugged the car owner before driving off to an unknown destination.

It was learned that after he had stolen the vehicle on Friday, a witchdoctor who was consulted performed a ritual to punish and make him return the car. Read more

South African Church; The Afrikaanse Protestante Kerk church in Orania has barred blacks from attending service as the church on Sunday disallowed two black journalists from entering.

They told the journalists “the church is only for whites”.

According to Africa Review, the journalists were on an assignment and decided to attend a Sunday service before returning to Pretoria but they were intercepted by a church leader, identified as Mr Theunis Oukamp, at the door who said allowing black people into an all-white church would be violating the “rights of Afrikaans people. R&B legends, Boys II Men, which includes members – Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris got a street named after them over the weekend in their hometown of Philadelphia, CBS Philly. The street is named Boys II Men Blvd.

Philly Councilman Kenyatta Johnson said the group’s success has been an inspiration for the entire city.

He said, “When they got their record deal, it was like we all made it. It was like everybody from the neighborhood made it because Boyz II Men made it.”
